1. Just finished volume 5 and part of 6 of Homunculus and it’s fair to say it can no longer be part of my train reading, if it keeps up storywise. I wasn’t expecting it to be tame at all when I began reading it, but at this point I think it’s also fair to note to anyone who might read my previous post and think of reading Homunculus… tl;dr below

The main character is a mentally unstable homeless man (who get’s the trepanation procedure in exchange for a large sum of money, given to him by a former medical student who has an interest in it’s effects). We learn a little more about the main character as the story goes on, but at the same time we see past and present mental instability as well the effect of his new ability on his mental condition. (Which I’ll just say is not good at all.)

Without aiming to ruin the story, he discovers the files of previous trepanation patients and reads they went crazy and became violent.

It’s by volume 4/5 that I realize how twisted the story will get. The main character “helps” a man rid himself of his homunculus through what I’ll put simply as a therapeutic discussion with some mildly violent moments. The main character seems pretty in control of what he says and almost seems to have a plan to help the man.

tldr     Let’s just say there’s a quick turn for the worse by the second person the main character meets with. Distorted reality takes over. And well, without trying to dance around the subject matter anymore, or trying to soften the serious matter. The main character is involved in forcing himself sexually on a person. Which I know is a disturbing thing for some. So a warning.

I’m going to continue reading Homunculus as it still appeals to the forensic psychology student in me.
